BRIEF HISTORY OF BARANGAY STA. BARBARA

Many years ago, Victoria was just a struggling community dotted by forest of trees and verdant hills scattered along meandering streams. It was divided into sparsely populated barrios, seventeen of them, to be exact. One of this is Sta. Barbara
Our father told us that in the beginning. Victoria was to full it mildly, a sprawling wilderness, to its study occupants, hunting was not only a favorite past time but also the chief source of their livelihood.
One morning, one of the early settlers was roaming around the forest in search for prey when, much to its surprise, he discovered a well in the counter of a barren upon. As he placed his arrow into the place or into the well to determine its department, he found out that the image, mold in the likeness of Sta. Barbara, was out of having accused, he touched the image, and to its surprise, it turn out to be clay. Being superstitious, he dipped his hands into the well and drank the water that filled him. As if by magic, he felt that he suddenly grew stronger, and like the miracle that it was, he felt that the pains that had together him for so long a time disappeared entirely.
Anxious to bring the little of the divine water to its family, he realized that he had string but his hands to fill tin cans were then completely, unknown. Determined to have little of the precious water, he sought means to carry out his plan. At he precise moment when necessity ruled is being, his curiosity and resourcefulness took possession of him. Out of the mud surrounding the well, molded containers not knowing that it was the beginning of a thriving dwelling place.
Upon learning of the miraculous cure, the barrio people went to get their share of the now famous water. And to have something to fill with the water, they had to mold a containers died without having realized that theirs is the credit fro having introduced as foundation source of trade.
As so today, the people of Sta. Barbara still are what their forefathers have been. As one goes by the main street, he will hear and see the image of the Santa that the people named Sta. Barbara. From this miraculous image, the people of the settlers name the barrio Sta. Barbara.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROFILE OF STA. BARBARA

This Barangay is the most populated area in Victoria marking a total of 5,323 people in 2014 or about 1182 households. With a vast (mostly agricultural fields or unoccupied space) total land area of 458.68 hectares, Barangay Sta. Barbara is further sub-divided into 9 puroks namely Centro I, Centro II, Sinipit, Marocco, Kaingin, Sinabaan, Valdez and Gripo,Kabayugan.

Farming and agricultural services is high in this poblacion district Barangay marking a total of 294 households out of 987, to engage in such venture. Crop production is active with some 294 farmers. Through this that households generate their main source of income. Other sources of income are coming from regular salaries (116 household heads), contractual wages (73 household heads) and some family-based businesses.
On employment, there 563 self-employed household heads, 63 unemployed and 144 employed individuals.
Participation to some of the government’s initiative on conducting Livelihood trainings is high marking a total of 845 participants out of 987.
